Otis Taylor föddes i Chicago 1948 där hans musikintresse tidigt väcktes. Han startade två bluesband, turnerade så smått i England på 60-talet, och gav sig in i rocksvängen på 70-talet. År 1977 lämnade han musikvärlden helt och blev antikhandlare på heltid.
